About Ian
Ian Titley has been practicing trademark and copyright law for over 30 years. He started his legal career in 1988 at Williams Mullen, a large firm in downtown Richmond, working in the business section on corporate matters mergers and acquisitions, healthcare-related work, and general commercial law.
Trademark work came about somewhat by accident. A colleague ahead of him had staked out intellectual property as his focus, bought the books, and then left the firm to practice family law. His files landed on Ian's desk. By around 1990 or 1991, trademark law had become a regular part of his practice.
He stayed at Williams Mullen for nearly two decades before leaving in 2006 to practice on his own. The move was deliberate he wanted to narrow his focus to trademark and copyright work rather than continue across multiple practice areas. That focus has held for the past 20 years.
Ian handles the full range of trademark and copyright matters short of courtroom litigation registrations, disputes, cease and desist responses, USPTO administrative proceedings, and licensing. When a matter requires a litigator, he works alongside trial attorneys, handling the trademark and copyright side of the case.
He is currently a partner at Threshold Council, a boutique firm in the Richmond area, alongside attorneys Justin Lauder and Chris Gatewood, both of whom also practice in the trademark and entertainment space.
Ian has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America, Martindale-Hubbell, and Virginia's Legal Elite. He has clients he has worked with continuously for over 30 years.
